Today I’m sharing a zine I made about ears called… (wait for it…) EARS! Originally, I was going to make a zine about noses called “Snoots!” But while I was researching and scheming how to put it together, I got sidetracked by the wonder that is EARS! Ears also ended up being easier and less awkward to draw separately from faces (compared to noses, that is), so down the rabbit hole of ear research I went. It turns out ears are quite useful and interesting, which made them an excellent topic for a zine. I might still make a zine about noses one day. There are so many excellent noses, after all. (For instance, elephant shrews!) If you have any specific nose requests for such a zine, let me know in the comments!
I drew EARS! in colored pencil on Kraft paper. I highly recommend using color pencil on non-white papers. It’s extremely satisfying because 1. you can use white pencil, which is super helpful for highlights, and 2. the colored paper adds more depth without as much layering. It’s an all around delight, and I wish you many hours of joy using colored pencils on colored paper.
Ok, now for some ear facts!
If you’re into printed goods, you can get a physical copy of this zine in my store. Think of it as a unique card you can send to your wacky ear-loving friend.
