Flashback: Hourly Comics Day 2020

February 1st was hourly comics day! I wasn't able to participate this year, so let's take a walk down memory lane instead.

Flashback: Hourly Comics Day 2020

Before I dive in, I want to share a quick update on “Stardust.” Pre-orders (and associated bonuses) closed 1/31, but you can still place normal orders! I’m planning to order copies this week, and I will start shipping as soon as I get them (probably late February!). THANK YOU!

February 1st was Hourly Comic Day! It’s an annual event where participants chronical every hour they are awake with comic panels. According to the internet, John Campbell started Hourly Comic Day in 2006. Many participants draw and share their comics in relatively real-time throughout the day (an impressive feat!). Since this year’s event fell on a Thursday, real-time drawing and sharing wasn’t possible for me with my other responsibilities! Instead, let’s take a trip down memory lane to the Before Times, specifically Saturday, February 1, 2020.

Epilogue

I think I did yoga exactly twice before giving up! Hahaha. But Owen and I did become regulars at the library, which was walking distance from our house at the time. This was a great outing for us during COVID times when they reopened the pick-up area. Reserving books at the library is my favorite public service. In case you’re curious about the graphic novel I was reading (Panther by Brecht Evens), you can check it out at Bookshop.org, Amazon, or your local library.

The zine I was working on didn’t come to fruition as a poetry zine — it morphed into a different zine that’s dedicated to my Mom called Sky Blue Pink. The original concept was one of my first ideas for an illustrated poetry zine before I fully embraced the poetry comic idea, which has finally come to life in Stardust!

I drew these Instax photos in colored pencil. This is today’s art print download for paid subscribers!
