Restless Nerves

I dipped into my archives for some inspiration, and found a zine I made in 2020 called “Restless.” Sometimes when I’m feeling stuck or uninspired, I like to see what past me was thinking and writing about. Usually I find a nugget that sparks something new or feeds into the latest thing I’m working on. Here’s what “Restless” looks like unfolded:

I inked the original zine without a visual plan and just followed my intuition at the time. I still liked the concepts, but the title felt off and the artwork had room for improvement. So I decided to redraw it digitally and share it with you today. If there are any worry demons keeping you up at night, I hope this helps!

I know this is easier said than done! Some nights I simply can’t find the magical combination of words or ideas to talk my brain into letting me sleep. But I like the idea of intrusive thoughts being tiny little ghosts that I can inhale and exhale into the ether. That’s what I’m going to try to do next time they are keeping me awake!

For additional thoughts on problematic night brains, check out my post Day Brain vs. Night Brain.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for being here! It truly means the world to me. In case you missed it, last week I wrote about finding yourself on the page and using writing as a mirror. Check it out here.

And for my paid subscribers, please keep scrolling to download printable versions of “Nerves” as a mini zine and art print!
