I’m keeping today’s post short because it’s summertime here in Wisconsin, and I’m trying to maximize my time outside and away from screens. Perhaps you are too?!
Today, I just want to leave you with some questions to consider:
What would surprise past you about present-day you? In a good way!
How would you like to surprise future you?
How could you lower the stakes and make something more fun?
I made this watercolor and color pencil drawing during my March watercolor experiment where I embraced The Power of the Bare Minimum. I liked how the trees seemed to be emerging from an egg-like Earth. Later, I scanned it in and added the words “surprise yourself.”
If you’d like more encouragement on the topic of surprising yourself, check out my post Channel Your Inner Octopus which asked the question “What if you didn’t underestimate yourself?”

Thanks for being here! Time and attention are among our most precious resources, and I truly appreciate you making space for my work. In case you missed it, last week I shared a post called Beautiful and Dangerous.
