Indie Art Gift Guide
Inside: FREE printable goodies and an array of creative gift ideas from me and some of my favorite makers.
Hello, friends. I hope you had a relaxing holiday with lots of tasty food and time with people you love. The gathering and gifting madness has officially begun, and I hope you are finding little pockets of quiet between the chaos!
I debated about whether or not to create a gift guide this year. There’s already so much “Buy this! Buy that!” noise that I hate to join the capitalist cacophony. But on the flip side, finding a really meaningful gift for someone you care about is a lovely thing. And in the spirit of that, I offer you some unique non-Amazon, non-big-box options to pepper into your lists this year.
FREE Printable Art!
I aggregated all the posts where I shared a free downloadable art print or zine with ALL subscribers here. This is a great DIY option. Simply print and frame for an easy, low-budget gift that is also thoughtful and creative. Today, I’m adding a new print to the FREE lineup called “Yeah No,” which sums up the motivation I have for most things right now!
Just a reminder that I share printable art and zines like this every week with paid subscribers! If you’re looking for a unique gift for the creative and thoughtful person on your list, consider a year-long gift subscription to this newsletter for $50!
Illustrated Merch
I just added the Yeah No design onto mugs, t-shirts, and tote bags, now available in my shop!
I have TONS of fun designs that are all print on demand. I recommend ordering in the next week or so to ensure you receive items in time for Christmas! Estimated ship dates are indicated in the product descriptions. Browse my full shop by tapping the button below.
Books & Zines
I know I’m partial, but I think books make one of the best gifts. I ship all my books and zines out myself, so I can sign and personalize the copy to your gift recipient. Add notes at checkout or reply to your order confirmation with personalization details.
Gifts Ideas from Artists I Admire
Evan Cohen makes incredible moment-to-moment wordless comics that feel like traveling through a dreamy animation. He also makes t-shirts, art prints and other merch. The t-shirt shown below is my current favorite.
I got sucked into Britchida’s work through these beautiful illustrated diagrams they post on Instagram (like the one pictured below). The artist has a huge array of work, from small prints and stickers to a new release of large canvas paintings. All of their work is beautiful and deeply thoughtful, and I recommend checking it out!
Amanda Zieba is a passionate Word Nerd, Educator, and Author of 13 books for children and adults! She recently released a line of cozy-looking sweatshirts that would be the perfect gift for the word nerd in your life. This one is my favorite!
The Keeper by Kelcey Ervick was one of my favorite books I read this year. It’s one of those rare books that gives you insights into history, while offering a heartfelt and relatable narrative. This description sums it up perfectly, “A beautifully illustrated coming-of-age graphic memoir chronicling how sports shaped one young girl’s life and changed women’s history forever.” I also recommend checking out Kelcey’s fantastic Substack
.Thanks for reading
Thanks for being here! It truly means the world to me to connect with you every week. In case you missed it, last week I shared a new poetry comic called Enough and wrote about our deeply human need for connection in my post I Want to Be Absorbed.
