Stardust Zine Available for Pre-Order!
It's been a long time coming! I offer you "Stardust" a collection of heartfelt poetry comics.
After a drought of doubt, I’ve been quietly working on finishing up my zine “Stardust” over the past couple weeks. It’s a 40-page poetry comic zine comprised of four poems about grief, growth, and surrendering to change. Here is the cover:
I’ve shared three of the four poems over the past few months. Check out the links below if you’d like to revisit them:
When I finished “Enough” in November, I felt like the collection was really starting to make sense. All I had to do was finish illustrating the last (and longest!) poem, Thriving vs. Surviving, and I’d have a finished zine! How hard could it be?
Thriving vs. Surviving was the piece that started this zine concept in the first place last spring! But now it was a massive roadblock, making me question the entire project. Part of that was the painful and indecisive way in which I created the final art (concept changes, page size changes, color palette changes, character changes…), and part of it was my usual pit-of-despair phase I experience during every sizable creative project.
Little by little, I convinced myself to finish it and remembered why these words and pictures matter to me. This week I finished the opening spread shown below along with a sizable list of edits, and now I finally feel ready to share it with you!
Next week, I’ll share more behind the scenes on the winding path Thriving vs. Surviving took to it’s final destination. In the meantime, I have opened pre-orders! If you have enjoyed the illustrations and poetry comics I have shared in this newsletter, I know you will enjoy this zine. It would make a great gift for a friend who is grieving, going through a tough time, or navigating a big life change. My goal was to make something that communicated a balance of longing and hope — grief and gratitude. I hope I have done that with “Stardust.”
Pre-orders will be open for the next couple weeks, and will include a surprise mini-zine along with each pre-order! I plan to start shipping sometime in February. I’ll share the exact pre-order deadline in next week’s post!
Also, I’ll be sharing a high-res PDF of the entire zine with paid subscribers in the next couple weeks. Stay tuned!
